Sulawesi Cup quality in general: full and rich body, low flavor, low acidity. Altitude: between 1500 and 2000 meters History The Unwashed arabica’s from the island of Sulawesi, formely known as Celebes, grow in the south-central part of Sulawesi around the village Kalossi. This is the reason these coffee are called Kalossi’s and basically come as a Grade 1. The coffees are grown and processed the same way as on Sumatra which is not so strange. Story goes that centuries ago the Batak people (sailors from Malaysia) went to Sumatra and to Celebes and kept in contact. The Batak’s on Sumatra resided around the city of Padang from where the explored the whole island also finding coffee. From here the coffee changed hands with ‘relatives’ on Sulawesi. On the other and the Dutch also had their presence on Celebes and therefore might have been the ones introducing it on this Island.
